Amnesia/Reminiscence"a journey of wonder

"Amnesia" means loss of memory or recollection.

Foremost we have to decide whether the memory or recollection is important. If not, might as well forget it! Our power to remember is limited. Each person uses his own ways to remember things or events important to him, such as birthdays of good friends, password of bank account, wedding anniversary, the 18th birthday party or details of a trip to Europe with someone. The line between remembering and forgetting is a thin one.

In one moment we may recall and then lose it in the next. What was taken serious yesterday might be totally discarded today. The power of memory diminishes with age. But childhood memories of years past often spring up out of nowhere.

This "Amnesia/Reminiscence"Exhibition is born of a blink. Seven artists try to present for eyes to see., through the link between art and object and refined with passion, the wonderful feelings in the matrix of space and time formed by and interweaving of ‘remember’ and ‘forget’.

This is a story which man tends to forget ......

This is a story which man tends to forget ......
The memories about a tree and man vanish the moment the tree falls.
The moments enjoyed under its shadow,
things it would remind us of will be lost........

And this is just one of the stories.

Do we lose memory because we want to forget or do not want to remember?

Do we lose memory because we want to forget
or do not want to remember?
Is it because we have forgotten or because we do not wish to recall?
The ultimate loss is forgetting what we have forgotten.
Clay is soft and very pliable. But it has firm memory.
It remembers every touch which you think has been wiped.
Through the baptism of fire handprints thought
to have been wiped out reappear.
Silver appears hard. But annealing will remove
what it has gone through. It is a complete new start.
Through the partnership of clay and silver,
we register, retain, stabilize and retrieve the memory we have lost.
What about Man? Would the baptism of time break down
and then re-group what was forgotten?
Or will it lock up what we don’t want to remember?

Awakening Amnesia

Awakening Amnesia
Friends of mine have been asking me
to craft “something” special for them —

but their requests since been forgotten!
This exhibition awakes my amnesia.
Now with these objects created,
future owners of them are being called upon
to reclaim their “lost properties”.

The Silver Anniversary of the Pottery Creation "Amnesia"

MAK Yee Fan – a pioneer master who has
far-reaching influence on pottery in Hong Kong.

Vincent AY – someone who became
a student of Master Mak some twenty years ago.
Pottery had linked these two unrelated persons
and brought them close together.
Then there was the day I gave up clay and pottery.

Skills began to slip away and techniques escape from memory.

The crack widened, as if you has never related to pottery.
Fate has it in 2007 that I got in touch with clay again
in helping to establish the St. James’ Creation Ceramics Gallery.

It rekindled your enthusiasm for clay.
In the twinkling of an eye, twenty years had gone…
Looking at my works now, they look familiar yet remote.

Deep inside there is the mixed feeling of amnesia and reminiscence.

Pain…, I am

Pain…, I am

Then… I am in a garden

Scoliosis is a tree
Meniscus is a seed
Cervical is a flower
Lumber is a trunk
Thoracic is a root
I am in the garden of pain

It thrives I fight
Plants the flag I feel
It conquers I fight I feel
I am in the land of pain

Can you see?
Can you remember?

How did it get here?
When will it leave?
Where is it going?
Why is it?
I am in pain

And… I am

Amnesia

Do you not find that in a painting, the brush strokes,
the colour scheme, the overall mood,
and the structure decodes the hidden feeling
and the subconscious of the painter?
Do you confident not to reveal the painter’s true self?
…… would like to tell you that whatever
you find in viewing a painting is no more than
your own suppressed feelings and your long-lost memories……
Do you not know that we are victims of amnesia……
